Synopsis

This is the first of a two-part sermon as Pastor Isaac Makashinyi continues his exposition of the first eleven chapters of the Book of Genesis. From this passage we see that God made us as moral creatures/beings, created to live in moral character and obediently relate with God. This life was to be centered in the one command (or a covenant as most scholars point it out to be) of not partaking from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. By doing so, God sets the standard on what Adam (and all man) ought to live by - His standard as He must be related to, by man, on the basis of His goodness. Failure to follow through leads to giving into temptation and consequently dying. In the case of Adam and Eve it was a spiritual, physically and relational death that resulted from their disobedience. As descendants of Adam we are born with sin and can only be forgiven through Jesus Christ. Once we are forgiven we enter a relationship with God, one that is based on God's goodness - His set standard.
