She was a notorious sinner, a woman who had scandalized the neighbourhood with a Hollywood-style series of marriages and divorces. And yet she is the first person in John's Gospel to whom Jesus explicitly discloses Himself as the Messiah (John 4:26). She didn't go to the well at midday to search for Him, but He was at the well so that He could offer her living water. He came to seek notorious sinners like you, and like the Samaritan woman.
